  • May 22 -- Ten people escaped injury when their home in the first block of Hillcrest Avenue burned in what police are calling a fire of "suspicious origin."
  • May 21 -- Seventeen year old Shanel Brady was killed and Shakita Pempleton, 19, was wounded in the leg after shots were fired in the area of the 500 block of West State Street at about 11:15 pm Wednesday.
  • May 16 -- At approximately 9:00 pm a detective was detailed to the rear of 232 East Hanover Street to investigate an aggravated assault against a 50 year old African-American male.  The victim had been observed drinking with an unidentified Hispanic male.  The Hispanic male reportedly assaulted the victim, who then tried to leave the area but fell down repeatedly and was taken to the hospital. 
  • May 11 -- A suspicious fire early Sunday on Walnut Avenue claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl.
    Qua-Daishai Hopkins, 10, died in a Trenton house fire early Sunday.

    Police said Qua-Daishai Hopkins died from smoke inhalation sustained in the fast-moving blaze that broke out around 1 a.m. on the 200 block of Walnut, police said.

    Her mother, 35-year-old Francis Hopkins, was also in the house but survived. She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center where she was treated and released.

     

 

  • May 9 --  A 47-year-old Ewing man was found dead late Friday night on Hazel Avenue, the apparent victim of foul play.  Ewing police responded to a report at 10:48 p.m. of a man down on the 300 block of Hazel Avenue and found an unresponsive man later identified as Leroy Julious. EMS personnel arrived and at tempted to revive Julious, but could not. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said

 

  • May 4 -- A shooting was reported to police just before 8:30 p.m. The victim, 44 year old Richard Mason,  was transported to Capital Health System at Fuld with three gunshot wounds, where doctors attempted to save him. They were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at 9:03 p.m. A preliminary investigation by police determined that the man was part of a group playing dice. Three men may have fled the scene in a vehicle and are being looked into as potential suspects.
  • May 1 -- City detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of Arrell A. Bell Thursday night. Police said officers and emergency medical personnel were summoned to a section of Stacy Park near Hermitage Avenue about 8 p.m. for a shooting.  When they arrived, they found a man dead from at least one gunshot to the head, police said.
