March 28 --- Mayor Douglas Palmer and police officials plead with the public to pass along information that will identify the teens and adults who allegedly gang-raped a 7-year-old Sunday. The girl’s 15-year-old sister, who allegedly prostituted her sister to the group, is in custody, and detectives have been working to find the dozen people who attended the 13th floor party. At least four people have been questioned and detectives are compiling a list of persons of interest, but no arrests have been made. The alleged rapists held the 7-year-old down as they brutalized her, threatening to kill her if she told anyone what had happened, police said. The girl cried and screamed out for help that never arrived, they said.
Police are conducting interviews and reviewing video surveillance in the building as they seek between five and seven people for the gang rape, along with anyone who drifted in and out of the party. The suspects are between the ages of 15 and 28 years old, sources said.
March 12 --- A shooting occurred at 9:20 a.m., Friday, on the first block of Jarvis Place. The victim, James Rodgers Jr., was hit in the face by a bullet fired from a handgun. Police did get a general description of the shooter, who was said to be a black male wearing blue jeans and a tan hoody.
March 8 --- Robert Jenkins, 29, was critically wounded in a shooting incident on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Bond Street at about 5:35 pm Monday. Police described the suspected gunman as being about 5-foot-9 inches tall weighing 180 pounds and wearing a red hat. two additional suspects were described as black males, about 5 feet 3 inches tall. One was said to be wearing a white sweatshirt, and the other was wearing a red and black jacket with some white on the sleeves. No further description was provided.
March 1 --- A 20-year-old Hispanic male found bleeding and knifed in the chest and arm in a backyard in the 1300 block of South Clinton Avenue succumbed to his wounds. Investigators learned that the victim may have been involved in a disturbance likely originating in the Flamingo Bar at 905 Anderson St. between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m. Monday.
