A 75-year-old woman was left with fractures and contusions and briefly stopped breathing following a purse-snatching and assault in the Villa Park section of the city Saturday afternoon, Ocotber 13. She suffered a fractured nose, contusion to her head and concussion, had difficulty breathing and may have fractured her ribs. The Hamilton resident was outside a house she owns on the 400 block of Commonwealth Avenue around 1:30 p.m. A witness heard her screaming and ran around the corner, where he saw a man trying to take the woman’s purse as she tried to hold on to it.
Clutching the purse, the assailant ran onto Roebling Avenue towards Chambers Street as the witness pursued him. The suspect managed to escape and an ambulance was called to take the injured woman to St. Francis Medical Center.
Police canvassed the area but could find no sign of the suspect. He is described as a black male about 30 years old, 6 feet tall, with thin to medium build, wearing eyeglasses, a gray sweat jacket and light blue jeans at the time of the crime.
